Highlights of the July Meeting

Karla Alexander was the speaker at July's meeting, and members were treated to a trunk show of the quilts from her latest book, Stack, Shuffle, and Slide.

Before Karla was introduced, however, the membership took a few minutes to honor the service of Julie Mason and to present her with a quilt. The look of surprise on Julie's face is priceless.

After that, Karla Alexander presented a trunk show of her beautiful quilts.

Karla is a dynamic speaker and teacher, and is among the guild's most requested instructors. Karla was recently honored at the 2014 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Festival as most inspirational instructor of the year.

Here is a sampling of the quilts shown at the meeting:

Karla does a good job of "deconstructing" and simplifying her block patterns, as she explains here:

Here are a couple of her rag quilts that show both the back and front of the quilt subject. Very clever!

To learn more from Karla, be sure to sign up for one of the two workshops she is teaching on September 13th and 14th, 2014.

Thank you, Karla! And many thanks to Julie Mason for her service to the guild!

The next guild meeting is August 18, 2014, when challenge quilts for the "Initially Yours" challenge will be revealed.
