Every spring, the Westside Quilters' Guild holds a Charity Super Sewing Day! On these special days, we ask a guest instructor to lead us in making quilts. These instructors generously donate their time to do this as their contribution to our efforts. The finished quilts will be given to recipients who would benefit from the comfort of a hand made quilt. This year, we are excited to have Peggy Gelbrich (Yellow House Quilter) teach us her quick method for making the Delectable Mountain block. This quilt looks great with a few fabrics, or lots of fabrics, giving it a scrappy feel.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Jessie Mays Community Center in North Plains (30975 NW Hillcrest St, North Plains, OR 97133) from 9 am to 4 pm. Participation is FREE. All quilts will be donated through our charity quilting committee. You may use any fabrics you like- from your own stash or from our charity fabric stash.
Some people like to work alone, and some like to work with a partner. It's up to you!
Contact our charity quilting chairwomen, Carolyn Drosd and Marcia Elliot to:
*Register for the class (no charge, but please register so they will know how many to expect)
*Request charity fabric to use
*Get answers to any questions you may have
See note below.
*You can also use a pre-cut Layer Cake. You will need one each of a main fabric and a background fabric. A full layer cake of each background and main will make a larger quilt.
Pre-cutting: If you are using yardage, cut your fabric into six - 10½” wide strips, width of fabric then into 24 - 10½” squares of each background and main.
Edit: Feb19, 2018
Peggy says that adding one additional row to the bottom would make the quilt 57" x 72"- a better fit for an adult. We would like to make the quilts this size at our charity event.
Adding the additional row will increase the fabric requirements to 2 1/3 yards each of background and main.
Cut (7) 10 1/2 " strips and sub-cut the strips into (27) 10 1/2" squares of each background and main.
