Our February speaker is Barbara J. Eikmeier. Her presentation is called, “It’s All in the Sashings!” Do you have a set of blocks that you just
can’t decide what to do with? Join us as Barb shares a series of quilts and
tops that feature blocks set with sashings and cornerstones. Some are simple and others are more involved
with secondary designs created within the sashings and cornerstones. See side by side examples of the same setting
and study how different they look based on the blocks and fabric choices. She
will show us approximately 25 quilts and tops in a mix of styles including appliqué
and pieced quilts.
Barb Eikmeier learned to sew in 4-H and made her first quilt
while in high school but didn't start quilting seriously until after her
marriage in 1984. She’s been teaching quilting since 1990 and her favorite
technique is applique'. Married to a
military man, quilting became her portable career as she moved around the
country and to South Korea for military assignments.
Barb is the mother of two, grandmother of one, and author of four quilting
books. She’s also a fabric designer for Paintbrush Studio Fabrics, a pattern
designer, a Craftsy instructor, and she presents programs and workshops to
guilds around the country.
Barb lives in Lansing, Kansas with her husband and two dogs. In addition to
quilting she enjoys flower gardening,
baking pies, writing, and sailing on their vintage sailboat at nearby Perry
Lake.
